I believe this is the best Naat sung ever for any film. Naat is a poetry read or sung in praise of the Prophet Mohammad and are usually sung in a Mehfil-e-Milad. Milad's were more common among Muslim women in India and later in Pakistan. Though Milad is considered religious occasion but it really was more of a cultural occasion in India and Pakistan. I liked this Naat since the day I heard it for its beauty in Lata's recital. I also believe this is the most perfectly sung Naat...but despite being so popular it was not sung as commonly only because it was from a film. Not just Muslims but many Hindus also didn't much appreciated working for films or considered their work as work of art. Those times have changed and people have begun to realize that sure was a work of art.

I found a site where you can read about this film, an original clip and a pretty decent translation. If you keep that translation in front you will enjoy this recitation more:

The one thing which people might not know is the use of word Gessu...meaning hair used in conjunction with the fact that the Prophet had long hairs...hence Gessuon Waale is referred to as Prophet himself.

It was some tough for me to sing this female song and try to adhere to the original melody as much as I could. Remember film Mughal-e-Azam is still considered as one of the top Bollywood movie. I hope you all enjoy this recital in my voice.
