Aminul Islam Sujon, moderate this radio talk show on proposed road safety law on aired at 11 August 2012

Moderator: This radio talk-show on ‘to ensure environment friendly transportation and correction of proposed law on Road Transport and Travel safety 2012’. For mass concern, to ensure safe, comfortable, cost-effective travel; Dhaka Transport Coordination Board (DTCB) developed a draft law. Anyone can comments and suggest through email on this law.

Travel is vastly related with environment. If people walk, use bicycle; rickshaw and non-motorized transports, it will not affect environment rather it would improve public health and reduce risk of NCD. If people use rail and water transports for long distance, it will affect minimum level to environment. But if people use private car, it will pollute environment, increase traffic congestion; fuel consumption; and road accidents.

Mr. Mohidul Haq Khan, Environmentalists spokes on why we need environment friendly transportation. He emphasized, transportation is key part of a well urbanization. Environment friendly transportation is necessary for city. Those who working for city development and transportation system, they should take responsibility to develop a pro-people; environment friendly transportation.

While Maruf Rahman; National Advocacy Officer of WBB Trust spokes why proposed law needs to change to ensure safe, comfortable and cost-effective travel. He emphasized that, this propose law is not pro-people. It is focus only few percent people in Bangladesh who owned private car. If this law will pass it will create problem for most of people including pedestrian. That is why it needs to change some of its clause.

Moderator: I hope, propose law must be change as this process is ongoing by government to ensure environment friendly, cost effective, comfortable and safe travel for all.
