  • Environment friendly transport and Railway_30-4-16
Environment friendly transport and Railway_30-4-16 Radio talk show on importance of railway as environment-friendly transport Radio talk show on Environment and railway on-aired 30 April 2016 at the government owned radio channel Bangladesh Betar. This talk shows are fortnightly program titled Bigyan o Poribesh (Science and Environment), hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I’ve started with introduction and provided basic importance of railway. Rail is a environment friendly transport. Not only environment friendly, it is cost effective, safe and comfortable. Travelling by rail is easy for any sick person as well. Travel from one destination to another, rail has no traffic jam and risk of accident is very less. These are the reason that rail is most popular transport. There are several initiatives has been taken to improve rail way, but still many other problems are exist. To consider above, this talk shows titled ‘importance of rail way as environment friendly transport and what needs to be done to develop rail system’. First, I invited first to eminent environmentalist Mr. Abu Naser Khan, chairman of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA- Save the Environment Movement). “Being a civil society leader, you and many others are working for many years to improve railway. What is the current scenario of Bangladesh railway and what are the major problem indentified by you and your organizations that needs to be solved?” Mr. Abu Naser Khan said that, transportation is one of major sources of pollution environment in Bangladesh. Not only Bangladesh, worldwide, 50% carbon emission is linked with transportation and its related industries. Transport itself major sources for carbon dioxide which polluted air. These transports need to build in industries and these industries need steels again, and steels and raw materials come from other sources which also pollute air. So if we consider all those cycle of transportation, it is even more than 50% causes of air pollution. Among transport, rail is most environment friendly, safe and key of economic boost of nation. This government has established separate rail ministry in their first term of consecutive tenure. It is consider as primary initiative for development of railway. There was several plans is approved for real development of rail, unfortunately these plans are not effectively implementing due international conspiracy with native collaborators. If we want proper improvement of rail, we should utilize all lands of railway first. At the same time, rail line should be modernized. How to utilize effectively Railway (passenger wagon and engine) we need to think of it. More importantly, as government took initiative to develop railway workshop, but this initiative is moving very slow. While if we effectively improve rail workshop, these workshops can provide us more engine and wagon. So, we can start many new trains as well. Its very important to have an integrated plan to utilize all assets (including existing resources and future demands) of railway, what are the needs for future improvements and to develop digitalize railway system shortly. We are demanding it to the government that this plan should implement properly. So we can improve railway with existing resource as well. On the other hand, its very urgent to recruit human resources. Through improving signaling system, we can improve railway with existing lines/routes. If we look to the 2040, as we are aiming to be a develop nation from developing nation now. We also knew that population increase from 160/170 million to 250 million, about 120 million people daily travel due to various purposes. And to be developed nation, we need export oriented growth, which mean that goods transportation will also increase 15 to 20 times within the country and export to outside. Dependency on road transport would be destructive. That is why we need coordinated and holistic plan for improving railway transportation. Government is now establishing 100 economic zones in various parts of country, so these economic zones should be connected with rail network to carry goods and raw materials to and from these zones. At the same time, after 20 years how many passenger and goods will be carry by rail, that needs to be sort-out and plan should be based on findings. So it is necessary to strengthened planning division of railway to utilize railway lands and other resources. Then people can get environment friendly railway. We also expect better coordination rail with river and road transport. Being moderator, I have thanks to Mr. Abu Naser Khan for his wonderful remarks regarding environment friendly transportation and welcome to Atiqur Rahman, project officer of the Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust who is working on rail development for quiet-long in various ways including research and advocacy. The question I asked to Mr. Atiq is that how we can establish a developed railway as transportation for people? Atiq Rahman said, though we know that the current government has taken some initiatives, and these initiatives are very important to improve railway system. For example, railway already passed long-term master plan from 2010 to 2030 which is now implementing. If we successfully implement this master plan, then railway can expand throughout the country. This master-plan has included to develop double lane where is single lane now, modernization of railway workshops, and locomotive and coach should be increase etc. If we work according to the master plan, then rail will expand lot and will improve as well. At the same time, we knew that railway has many resources and this should be under well-management. Then it will help to increase income of railway as well. We knew that good transportation by rail is cost effective, but major portion of income comes from goods transportation. That should be more emphasized. As a whole to coordinate and provide necessary guidance to all activities of rail development, including implementation of master plan, increase goods transportation and resources management, I think a separate research cell should be established within the Bangladesh Railway. This proposed research cell will look after ensure proper implementation all the initiatives and will play important role as a whole for rail development. Again, as moderator I’ve concluded this talk show. As rail is people friendly, environment friendly, cost effective, safe, comfortable transport, so that we should more focus on rail development and rail should be first priority as transport system for development. All transportation system should coordinate with rail. As Mr. Abu Naser Khan said that rail faced many difficulties in past for various reasons, we would expect that these difficulties will not continue in future. While as Atiq Rahman said that rail has many resources, rail is known as owner of most resources in Bangladesh including land. But many of its resources illegally grabbed. If rail get back their resources, then railway will be profitable institution. We hope that government will consider on these issues. Improved railway can be established more modern, safe and comfortable transport system. Only willingness of everyone, including concerned persons are enough for betterment of environment-friendly transport, railway.

  • Sound Pollution_23-4-16
Sound Pollution_23-4-16 Radio talk show on what needs to be done to control sound pollution on-aired 23 April 2016 at the government owned radio channel Bangladesh Betar. This talk shows are fortnightly program titled Bigyan o Poribesh (Science and Environment), hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I welcomed listeners and started talk show. Coming 27th April 2016 is International Noise Awareness Day. Last several years by the non-government and civil society organizations, this Day is also celebrating in Bangladesh. In recent days, government organizations in particular, Department of Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Forest has been taken various initiatives to reduce sound pollution. We hope that by the government and non-government efforts against sound pollution, it will reduce in Bangladesh. Therefore, we everyone should be responsible to save environment and to reduce sound pollution. On upcoming International Noise Awareness Day, our today’s discussion is ‘what needs to be done to control sound pollution’. First, I invited first Mr. Abu Naser Khan, chairman of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA- Save the Environment Movement). He is eminent environmentalist and leading environmental movement for 2 decades. As sound pollution creates many problems, how you see these problems, what is current scenario of sound pollution? At the same time, what are the initiatives taken by the civil society and non-government organizations to reduce sound pollution? Mr. Abu Naser Khan said that, we are working for long to control sound pollution. If we see the major sources of sound pollution, and what kind of initiatives are necessary to control each of sources of sound pollution, we are now moving forward. Main causes of sound pollution are horn of motor vehicles, including motor cycle, private car, and bus-truck. Most of motor vehicles using high volume horns that dangerous for public health. Sound pollution is major environmental and health problem. In addition, in urban areas, many new buildings are constructing and old buildings are demolishing to construct new buildings. So doing these works, many machines are using which causes to sound pollution. Though, electricity is improved, but still generators are using during load-shading in many places, including markets, which also causes to sound pollution. Industries and factories are other causes of sound pollution. Often, high volume music is creates problem and causes to sound pollution as well. Now if we want to control these sources of sound pollution that I mentioned, the first question is that how these sources are controlling in Bangladesh? As we know that we have a law in Bangladesh titled ‘Environment (protection) Law’ and under this law, we have ‘Sound Pollution Control Rules 2006’. Department of Environment is key stakeholder to implement this law. But implementation of Sound Pollution Rules in the field level is very weak. Even they are inactive in many places and impossible for various reasons. For example, with the existing resources, workforce and mechanism, to control sound from motor vehicles horn is not possible for department of environment. They are not able to go to everywhere to check vehicles horn. But they can get support from others, for example police and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). It means Department of Environment can effectively control sound pollution through coordinating with other effective government bodies. At first, hydraulic and high volume horn that causes to sound pollution and affects to public health, these should not be imported and should not use in vehicle. Ministry of Commerce and their respective departments which control all imported goods, they can ensure that no hydraulic and high volume horn will not import in Bangladesh. BRTA should monitor and ensure that no vehicles are using these hazardous horns as BRTA is regulatory body for all road transports and provide driving licenses to all drivers. Ministry of Industries have to ensure that all industries respectful to environmental laws, rules and policies. But department of environment will look after all these activities by the different organizations and should coordinate all of them to control sound pollution. The other problem is that, sometime vehicle drivers continually use horn without any reason, such as in signal, especially motor cycles and private cars. However, private cars controlled by owner while its on road, rather than the driver. Drivers just follow the directions provided by owners. If owners are not aware about sound pollution caused by horn, then it would be difficult to implement. If government also included clause in the driving license test and vehicle registration, then vehicle-based sound pollution can control. Department of Environment can develop a proper plan to identify the specific stakeholders of sources of sound pollution and they should coordinate and make all others active. Then I’ve invited Mr. Farid Ahmed, Director of the Coordinated and Partnership Activities on Sound Pollution Control by the Department of Environment. He is leading sound pollution control activities on behalf of Department of Environment. I asked a question to Mr. Farid Ahmed that, what are the initiatives are ongoing by the government of Bangladesh to control sound pollution and what is the future plan? Farid Ahmed said that, sound is one of major medium of communicatifon. But when this sound limits the cross of volume, then we call it sound pollution. Sound pollution is increasing in Bangladesh, particularly in major big cities. Government of Bangladesh has concerned this raising problem and passed Sound Pollution Control Rules. To ensure implementation of Sound Pollution Control Rules, government has taken a new initiative. By this initiative, Department of Environment will implement various kinds of activities collaborating with other relevant agencies. For example, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Bangladesh Police – they are responsible to enforcement the rules with us. We will organize many capacity building trainings for concerned officials from BRTA, Bangladeshi Police and department of Environment about sound pollution rules and their roles to implement it. I hope that through trainings, they will play active role to control sound pollution in their respective jurisdiction. Either Department of Environment, neither BRTA have adequate machine to identify the sound pollution area and sources. So by this project, we will collect 200 machines which will be used in various parts of the country. We will also train concerned official how to use these machines. So that these government bodies, Bangladeshi Police, BRTA and Department of Environment will play more active role in future to control sound pollution. By this project, we will also do survey in 7 divisional cities, where sound pollution is big concern. By this survey, we would understand well about the sources and areas of sound pollution. At the same time we will also do perception survey, by which we would understand peoples view and response about sound pollution. We can also develop a guideline on how to implement sound pollution control rules effectively and will provide necessary recommendations to the government. We will also train drivers and transport owners as well. So, they can play more active roles to control sound pollution in future. In these activities, we would like included future generations including school-going students and will provide them necessary training on sound pollution. We hope they would also involve controlling sound pollution. At the same time, when they will be adult and join in profession, they will be able to control sound pollution. We will develop several TV spots to create more awareness on sound pollution and to involve mass people into sound pollution control activities. Being moderator, I’ve concluded this talk show as I said that, if we all citizen being responsible to society, then we can able to reduce environmental pollution as well as sound pollution. I would recommend everyone to involve on controlling sound pollution from your own position. At last I’ve concluded this talk show with wishing everyone good health.

  • Radio talk show on World Water Day 2016
Radio talk show on World Water Day 2016 Radio talk show on World Water Day 2016 Regular radio talk show Bigyan o Poribesh (Science and Environment), on-aired twice in every month at the government owned radio channel Bangladesh Betar. It is on-aired on 19 March 2016 and hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I’ve provided introduction and introduced guest speakers. Worldwide, 22 March is widely celebrating as World Water Day. Relation between water and environment is very deep. All lives are dependent on water. Water can save lives and make sure to born new lives. On the other hand, polluted water causes to death. Globally, only 3% water is drinkable and 97% water is salty water which is not drinkable. Most of drinking water we collect from ground water. Due to unplanned urbanization and industrialization, surface water (rivers, canals, lakes, ponds etc.) massively polluted and grabbed for illegal construction. That increases pressure to the ground water. This radio talk show dedicated upcoming World Water Day 2016, and it’s titled ‘Role of water based employment to save water bodies and environment’. I have invited guest speaker from NGO Forum for Public Health, Advocacy and Information Manager, Mr. Shaha Dipak Kumar. The question I asked him about the importance of World Water Day and how this Day would be useful to show importance of water and how nation is going to celebrate this Day. Mr. Shaha Dipak Kumar provided the background information of World Water Day that declared in 1993 at the 47th conference of United Nations, since than this Day is celebrating in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is known as rivers and water based country. But rivers are in bad condition due to increasing pollution and reducing depth due to siltation of river. Pollution is increasing due to people unethical activities. Siltation is natural, but regional (inter-country) politics is another reason as most of Bangladeshi rivers are international rivers (around 52 to 54 rivers) which come through India. We don’t have control of these rivers. Grabbing rivers is another major reason. Rivers are polluted due to human waste, industrial waste and sewerage system which directly go to the river. Only 15 to 20% human waste of Dhaka is treated and more than 80% untreated waste goes to the water bodies and rivers. This Water Day is the opportunity for us to create more awareness to stop pollution and grabbing among mass people to policy makers and in particular the government institutes related to river, water and environment. We appeal to everyone to think about river. Dhaka is surrounded by rivers, but to ensure water supply to household at Dhaka, we are planning to bring water from Padma (near to Aricha) or Meghna. If surrounded rivers water is usable, then we don’t need to bring water from far away by spending huge amount of money. If in future, Padma and Meghna rivers became polluted, than where we will go? So those are concerned about water and environment, they should come forward to save rivers from all kind of pollution. I would also urge to those government authorities who are concerned for water, river and environment for being pro-active & supportive to us and join the environment movement. I’ve invited to another guest speaker is eminent environmentalist Mr. Abu Naser Khan, who founded environmental movement in Bangladesh and Chairman of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA- Save the Environment Movement). The question to Abu Naser Khan is that, Bangladesh is known as Country of Water, but there are several crises arose. How these crises can be solved and what is your expectation and suggestion on this? Mr. Abu Naser Khan has mentioned two main different sources of water in Bangladesh, one is the rain and another is the water from upstream. Upstream water source is Himalaya that linked China, Bhutan, Nepal and India. But all these rivers flow to Bangladesh through India and go to Bay of Bengal. That means, upstream water come through all 54 international rivers and that water goes to sea. Rain water is another major source of water in Bangladesh, this water move to the ground through canals, rivers, lakes and other water bodies. So, we have to look after water sources, upstream water and rain water. Four major problems of rivers and water bodies have been found in Bangladesh. First, most of the water bodies are illegally grabbed in particular near to the cities. Second, aggressive agriculture policy destroy many water bodies as bring these into cultivate crops and using many pesticides which pollute nearest water bodies. Third, bottom of the rivers to be filled. Fourth is water pollution. So if we need to save water, all water bodies should be protected from grabbing first. Then, there should be foreign policy that would ensure water flow from upstream in inter-country rivers. Due to the reduced water flow, the siltation increases. So, to ensure water flow in all inter-country rivers in Bangladesh, we have to focus all inter-country rivers. There is Farakka agreement, but this agreement is necessary for all other inter-country rivers following by international law. However, all water bodies inside in Bangladesh should be protected. I think as Bangladesh is known as water based country, but we never provide importance to water. Rather we through water bodies as nuisance. we treat water bodies as valueless land. Bangladeshis ecosystem is developed based on these water bodies. Bangladeshis agriculture and economy are strengthened due to these water bodies. So if water bodies and rivers are destroyed, those will effects our ecosystem, agriculture and economy. As fish is major source for nutrition that will also be affected if water is polluted and water bodies are reduced whereas, industries also need water. We have to think about the effective use of water which is important, how we can be benefitted though using less water. 220 litters water is used to produce one Jeans pant only, 4 litters water is used to produce only one page A4 size paper. So, how we are using our valuable water, that should be look after with proper plan. On the other hand, unplanned urbanization and industrialization is major causes of water pollution. This pollution doesn’t not only affect water and environment, it also causes to several diseases. Surface water pollution is destroying ground water quality that will be threat for drinking water in future. That is why we demanded to the government to protect water bodies from all types of pollution and grabbing, and ensure water flow from upstream sources. At the same time, government should encourage people to preserve water sources that are our expectation. Again, as moderator, I’ve concluded radio talk show with brief summary of the discussions. We have to protect all water bodies. Water also creates million employments, such as fisher man – those are totally based on water and water bodies. Water is important for agriculture and huge labor force is involved in this sector. Food security is dependent on water. Water related transportation reduces pollution and cost of people and at the same time ensures many people’s employment. So that all types of water bodies should be save from pollution and grabbing – that is our expectation on World Water Day 2016.

  • Importance of walking to improve environment in cities
Importance of walking to improve environment in cities Radio talk show on Walking for health and Environment on-aired 6 March 2016 at the government owned radio channel Bangladesh Betar. This talk shows are fortnightly program titled Bigyan o Poribesh (Science and Environment), hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I’ve provided background importance of walking. In particular, most of people travel by walking at urban life. There is strong connection between travel by walking and environment. As much people walk, reduce using of motorized vehicles. If motorize vehicles reduce in cities, that will reduce several types of pollution; including noise and air. Worldwide, Dhaka is known as polluted city, air and sound pollution are unbearable. To reduce these types of pollution, environmentalist urged to promote non-motorized travel including cycling, walking. Worldwide, all modern cities established walking friendly environment. To consider above, this talk show titled as ‘importance of walking to improve environment in cities’. I asked first question to Mr. Maruf Rahman, Program Manager of the Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust, who works quite a long to improve walking and environment of cities in Bangladesh. The question I asked him that what is the condition of walking in Dhaka and why walking is important for cities. He told about the current scenario of walking condition of Dhaka and how walking can improve health, environment and human life. Then I asked question to eminent environmentalist Mr. Abu Naser Khan, who is founder of environmental movement in Bangladesh and chairman of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA- Save the Environment Movement). The question I asked him that how to improve walking condition to encourage more people to walk and what is the role of local government bodies (such as city corporation, pouroshova etc.). Mr. Abu Naser Khan emphasized to develop all policies to focus human development not motorized transport. Unfortunately Dhaka is focusing private car oriented policy, less than 5% people use it. Most of people are not benefitted from such policy. He also provided effective recommendation for the government, in particular ministry of local government and their local bodies (such as city corporation, pouroshova etc.), city development authority and as whole national government to make sure national policy. Again, as moderator, I’ve concluded radio talk show with brief summary of the discussions. Since we started to walk and till we would able to walk at old age that also mean hour healthy life. People wants to walk; that is why walking environment is important. We city authority ensure walking friendly environment that can encourage 75% (around 12 million) people to travel to their destination, because this distance are within 5 kilometers, even half of them within 2 kilometers. Dhaka is most dense city in world and most of destination is within walking distance. If authorities would ensure wide and plain footpath and zebra crossing and signal light for road crossings, that will encourage more people to walk. Photo is used from an event related to walking environment.

  • Radio talk show on World Cancer Day 2016
Radio talk show on World Cancer Day 2016 Radio talk show on World Cancer Day 2016 on-aired 20 February at the government owned radio channel Bangladesh Betar. This talk shows are fortnightly program titled Bigyan o Poribesh (Science and Environment), hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I’ve provided background of World Cancer Day and introduction of 2016 theme. World Cancer Day is celebrated worldwide including Bangladesh on last 4 February. One of major non-communicable disease (NCD) is cancer. It is dangerous but preventable diseases. To considering linked between various types of cancer with food habit, life style, tobacco and environmental pollution, the title of talk show is role of life style and environment to prevent cancer. Cancer expert Dr. Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Cancer Epidemiology, National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital of the Government of Bangladesh spoke importance of World Cancer Day, initiatives in Bangladesh and what need to be done to prevent cancer. He mentioned this year theme was “we can, I can”. Any individual can work on cancer prevention, at the same time we can work together as well – that is highlight this year theme. We know that, cancer prevention or control is more important than treatment. As Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved last year, in which NCDs prevention, including cancer is focused under the goal 3 (health). Though we don’t have population based national evidence on cancer; but we use information from International Agency for Research of Cancer (IARC). According to IARC, every year new 122,000 people diagnosed with cancer every ear and 91,000 died. So providing treatment to huge number of people would not possible. Now we have only 300 bed national cancer hospital, so even if we increase 2000 bed, we would not able to cover increasing new patient. So we have to focus to control cancer and most important to prevent risk factors of cancer. However, we may have still new cancer patient, so early diagnosis system has to be improve. Primarily, we can prevent one third cancers through changing life style, food habit, and tobacco use and reduce pollution. He also emphasized that early child marriage and teen age pregnancy are linked with breast and uterus cancer in Bangladesh as a major portion girls married and even pregnant before their age of 18. HPV virus is other major causes for cancer. Breast feeding to children can reduce risk of breast cancer, its important children health as well. Secondly, we have to improve cancer diagnosis system and it have to be available to root level. As soon as cancer diagnosed, less pain and less cost, but possibility is high to cure from cancer. For example, if uterus cancer diagnosed at early stage, within stage 2 (medical professionals divided stage like 1, 2, 3, 4), then operation can cure it. If it goes beyond stage 2, we provide some supportive treatment, but its not be effective as a whole. Even, uterus cancer can be diagnosed at very early stage, which even doesn’t need operation. It takes often 25 years to develop a aggressive uterus cancer, that is why after 2/3 years its good for medical checkup and its very easy. I think we have to build a regional cancer center at divisional level where people can easily diagnose.

It is on-aired 16 January 2016 and hosted (moderator and script writer) by Aminul Islam Sujon. Being as moderator, I’ve provided introduction and introduce guest speakers. Environment of water bodies in dry season become a challenge. So in this radio talk show we talked how to ensure eco system of water bodies in Bangladesh. One guest speaker is Mr. Abu Naser Khan, founder of environmental movement in Bangladesh and currently chairman of Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA- Save the Environment Movement). He talked why water bodies are important, role of water bodies to ensure eco system and agriculture. He also emphasized how water bodies are being polluted by chemical based agriculture and industrial waste. He made suggestion to protect all kinds of water bodies from pollution and preserve from illegal grabbing. He also talked on how to ensure nature environment and how to ensure movement of water based transport during dry season. Another guest speaker is Mr. Syed Saiful Alam Shovan, he is right based young activist in Bangladesh. He talked that, we need to find solution how we can ensure an innovative agriculture system in which using water for agriculture during dry season will reduce, which will help us to preserve water bodies during dry season. All urban community built based on water bodies but nowadays urban community far away from valuable water bodies. Again, as moderator, I’ve concluded radio talk show with brief summary of the discussions. As we know, there are three different sources of water; from top by rain, collected from underground and surface (river, canal, lake, pond, haor-baor etc.) But surface water is important, that is why not only dry season, for all the time we should be supportive to the government authorities are working to protect our water bodies from pollution and illegal grabbing. I urged to all citizen could play role to save and protect water bodies from pollution in their neighborhood.

For mass concern, to ensure safe, comfortable, cost-effective travel; Dhaka Transport Coordination Board (DTCB) developed a draft law. Anyone can comments and suggest through email on this law. Travel is vastly related with environment. If people walk, use bicycle; rickshaw and non-motorized transports, it will not affect environment rather it would improve public health and reduce risk of NCD. If people use rail and water transports for long distance, it will affect minimum level to environment. But if people use private car, it will pollute environment, increase traffic congestion; fuel consumption; and road accidents. Mr. Mohidul Haq Khan, Environmentalists spokes on why we need environment friendly transportation. He emphasized, transportation is key part of a well urbanization. • Water bodies importance
Water bodies importance I, Aminul Islam Sujon scripting and anchoring the radio talk show, as part of Science and Environment at Bangladesh Radio (Government owned radio). This talk show on-aired at 28 April 2012. Introduction by Aminul Islam Sujon: Waters another name is life. Water is essential elements of daily life. Without water, people or nature can not live. In this talk show, discussant told to me at Bangladesh Radio talk show on Science and Environment. The topic of this talk shows was, “waters importance for environment and food cultivation and what need to done”. Mihir Biswas, member secretary of Burigonga Save Movement and Joint secretary of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon-BAPA talked on water’s role for save environment and current scenario of water pollution in Bangladesh. He told water bodies are being polluted. Why it is polluted there is much reason. If water is polluted, than environment is affected. That is why water is treated most valuable resources in world. Giving emphasize to water bodies, all plan have been take place. We know Bangladesh is river oriented country. Availability of water we ignore its value. That is why water crisis is increased in many areas of country. I think, we will suffer for water in near future. Our environment, economy will be affected for this. In north side of Bangladesh, like Rajshahi Borendra area, there is water crisis affect agriculture. Drinking water is not sufficient in capital city Dhaka. To supply water in Dhaka’s population from ground water, every year water level is going down. We grab and polluted surface water bodies, like ponds, canal, lake, river etc. As we know, fish or any other water lives can not live in Buriganga, Turag, Balu, Shitalokkha River as these rivers are badly polluted. So that, now all plan should be for save water bodies. Peoples should be aware on this. Another discussiont, Mr. Kazi Enayet Hossain, Executive Director of Save the Costal People (SCOPE) and Member Secretary of Barisal River-Canal save movement. He told how food cultivation is dependent on water or how water can affect the agriculture. He told, waters dependency is create urban phenomena. River, canal and water bodies are source of surface water and people used it. Almost every city has built based on river. Our food also dependent on water. Today we are on threat due to lack of water and polluted water. Nowadays, if we look at the cities, we would see a bad competition to grab and pollute the canal and river. Not only rice, vegetables prices is going high. Local fish is not available now. Once we have 3000 local types fish, now the number is decreasing. Many local fish cannot survive due to pollution. We through all garbage to the water bodies, so urban culture or city are destroying by us. Mr. Enam Ahmed, Executive Director of Jalalabad Foundation also talked on this issue. He told, not only human, none of life-circle can not live without water. Unless clean water, we can not live with good health. That is why we need more concern on water. Anyone can live some days without food, but without water no one can live a days. For pure water, we need to save water from pollution. Ending my Aminul Islam Sujon: Reduce water misuse. Make sure that your tube wall or water tube is close. This is all of our responsibility to preserve water for the next generation. That is why we should stop misuse of water. Protect water from pollution. Protect water bodies pollution and grabbing.
